Luz is a Venezuelan filmmaker, finishing editor, and colorist with over fifteen years of experience in the U.S. media industry. She is currently the Director/Colorist at Cinemaluz, a boutique finishing company that specializes in documentaries and social impact stories. She was the Director, Cinematographer, Editor, and Colorist for the Venezuelan story El Hilo / The Thread, part of the anthology film Everything That Will Happen Has Already Happened, which premiered at the Black Nights Tallinn Film Festival in 2024.
Luz has a passion for telling stories that challenge stereotypes and inspire social change. She has worked on several award-winning and critically acclaimed projects, such as the Academy Award-nominated The Martha Mitchell Effect (Sundance ’22), Unfinished Business (Tribeca ’22), The Business of Birth Control (Miami Film Festival ’22), Photographer (Peabody Winner ’21), The Boy from Medellín (Amazon/TIFF ’20), Decade of Fire (PBS/Full Frame/DOC NYC ’19), among others. She has also collaborated with prestigious organizations such as The New School, Columbia University, and the United Nations to create impactful media content. Luz holds master’s degrees in Documentary and Media from The New School. She received two merit-based scholarships and a Davis Projects for Peace grant during her graduate studies, and she has been a mentor for the Immigrant Artist Program at NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) for several years. Luz is also a fellow of the Karen Schmeer Film Editing Fellowship and has taught several film workshops at Columbia University.
Her thesis film, De Colores, premiered at DOC NYC in 2017 and was well received on the festival circuit around the country. Luz is now working on her first feature documentary, El Retorno / The Return. She is an Avid Certified User and holds certifications in Color Grading from Blackmagic Design and in Color Management Workflows from iColorist. She continues her path as a self-taught colorist in New York City. Luz is fluent in Spanish and English, and also knows French.
